After almost two years of sun, rain, snow, and bottoms - the benches at Zoe's Rest looked like they needed a little love.
We ventured up on Thursday evening and applied a wood cleaner. After a good brush scrubbing, we washed it off while watching the sun create that perfect Zoe's Rest sunset we've all come to love witnessing from this spot.
The next morning we were back up there applying the first of two coats of stain. It was sunny and warm - perfect weather for what we were trying to accomplish. Before we could finish the first coat, we looked over our shoulder and saw this heavy rain cloud coming right for us - at 9:23 in the morning!
Miraculously, the storm veered to the north ever so slightly and we only got a few drops. But we could see from the ridge the large amount of water that was being dropped on the Highlands Ranch roads just to the north!
We waited an hour in between coats and then easily got the second coat applied. The orange flagging tape was set back up and the 24 hour waiting period began.
Of course not 5 hours later, a wild rain storm blew through Highlands Ranch and dumped several inches of rain and hail. The stain was supposed to be "rain resistant" after 4 hours.
We went back up the next morning and found that all was well. The bench dried as expected and looked awesome!
